ABOUT
James Harvey is a New Zealand contemporary artist primarily focused on producing abstract art. He is based in Featherston, South Wairarapa, but from the South Canterbury town of Timaru. After moving to Wellington from the South Island in the early 1990s, James obtained his Bachelor of Design. Later on in the mid-2000s James tutored in design computing while also working as a freelance designer. During this time he also completed a Master of Design. He has since remained in the Wellington area where he currently works and resides.

Harvey's artistic practice is a fusion of traditional techniques and modern digital art and design production methods. He draws inspiration from mid-century movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Color Field, which he blends with his own contemporary style and production methods to create unique works that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.
At the heart of Harvey's work is his interest in minimalist abstract art. His works feature bold colours and compositions that tap into universal emotional and psychological states, evoking feelings of calm and introspection. Harvey's digital art techniques allow him to create works that are as visually striking as they are thought-provoking.
